Religion Calendar
Introduction to Class
In seventh grade religion, we cover four main topics, morality, gospels, sacraments and human reproduction catechesis. In addition, we will be participating in various activities to aid students in their spiritual and social growth.
Prayer Partners- We pair with first graders as prayer partners. We attend school mass together once a month. In addition, we visit together once a month for a fun activity.
Food bank collection- We collect food the week before school mass. Extra credit (limit 8 points) is given per can of food. 2 points per can is given for food items. 4 points per can is given if student pays or works for food. Food is to be place in a plastic bag with handles tied together. Inside the bag is a note giving student's name, class period and amount of extra credit. If student paid or worked for food, a parent's signature is required on note.
Special Collections- Near mid-terms and final exams, special collections are taken up. Exam extra credit is given.
Unit 1- Morality and the Media
Students focus on church teaching as a guide to life choices. Particular emphasis is placed on applying Christian standards to television and movie viewing and the use of computer technology.

Unit 2- The Old Testament
Students will review main events and important figures of the Old Testament. Emphasis is placed on people and places that directily relate to Jesus's ministry.

Unit 3- The Gospel of Mark
Students read and discuss the entire gospel of Mark. Students will study the customs of the time period. Special emphasis will be placed on viewing Jesus as the “Suffering Servant Messiah”.

New American Bible- with revised new testament
Unit 4- The Gospel of Matthew
Students read and discuss the entire gospel of Matthew. Students will study the Law of Moses and compare and contrast it to the teachings of Jesus. Special emphasis will be placed on viewing Jesus as the “New Moses”.

Unit 5- The Gospel of Luke
Students read and discuss the entire gospel of Luke. Students will study characters in the gospel and their relationship to Jesus. Special emphasis will be placed on viewing Jesus as the “Friend of the Poor and Suffering”.

Unit 6- The Gospel of John
Students read and discuss the entire gospel of John. Students will study the symbolism of John’s gospel and contrast it to the synoptic gospels. Special emphasis will be placed on viewing Jesus as the “Son of God”.

Unit 7- Human Reproduction Catechesis
Students will study the physical process of human reproduction and the legal, social and moral consequences of misusing this gift from God. Topics discussed will include gender identity, dating relationships, family commitment, the development of the unborn baby, abortion and sexually transmitted diseases.

Unit 8- Sacraments
Students will study the history, symbolism and rubrics of the sacraments. Special emphasis will be placed on participation in the mass, including memorizing the prayers of the mass.
