Welcome to the 5th grade reading curriculum for 2010 -2011 . My main goal this year is to instill in your child an appreciation for reading. We have already gone over the two summer reading books and we have begun reading stories in the reading textbook. Also at the end of each class, we will free read. This is where we stop and read silently for roughly 10 minutes. Therefore your child is required to bring a free reading book to class each day. The students will receive a point each day for their participation. I also read to each class an age appropriate book at the beginning of each class. Please become involved by encouraging your student to read at home as well.
I begin each class period by reading aloud for about 5 minutes. During the course of the year I will read the 4 books pictured below. Please encourage your child to read at home.
